LETCHWORTH Ladies were desperately unlucky to return without a point from a tough away fixture at high-flying Bromley and Beckenham in the East Premier League.

Missing several squad members in a 2-1 defeat, Letchworth always knew it would be tough.

Their worst fears were confirmed when Bromley took the lead after just four minutes from a disputed penalty corner.

Although Letchworth fought back and had the better of the attacking play, the home side increased their lead after 20 minutes - again following a clear foul against Letchworth - seemingly to seal the points.

The second half belonged to Letchworth though.

Although keeper Helen King was forced into one fine save, the Whitethorn Lane side were virtually camped in the opposition half for all of the 35 minutes.

With the Letchworth midfield totally dominant, some deft lay-off play by Justine Lucas and penetrating runs from Nic Cooper and Charlotte Gibson in particular made it seem only a matter of time before the visitors scored.

The home side, bolstered by fine goalkeeping by their captain, held out until five minutes from the end when a Laura Dobson shot was touched in by Rachel Williams to set up an exciting final few minutes.

Unfortunately the home side hung on for an undeserved victory.

Letchworth face bottom side Crostyx at home this Saturday (1.30pm at Whitethorn Lane).

Other score: Letchworth II 0 Broxbourne II 2.

All of the matches for Stevenage Ladies bar one were cancelled due to the weather and pitches flooding.

The third team went down 7-0 to Tring 2nds in the match played.

Blueharts Ladies were unable to play their league match against Harpenden on Saturday due to a flooded pitch.

But they were beaten 3-0 as they travelled to Havering in Essex on Sunday to play their England HA Women's Vase fixture.

Havering, sitting third in the Essex Premier League, were tough competition but Blueharts proved themselves worthy opponents with much of the attacking play and several chances on goal.

It was Havering, however, that took the lead with a well-taken short corner and although Blueharts came back strongly, the Havering keeper kept her side ahead.

Another well-placed short corner strike left Blueharts two goals down at half time.

Harts again fought hard in the second half with strong performances in defence by Heather Abbiss and Sophie Field and were unlucky not to score with forwards Jay Livermore, Tamzin Alderson and Lorna Slack all testing the defence.

The home side eventually broke through a third time to score.

The seconds were frustrated by the weather at Bassingbourn against Royston.

The initial weather was bright and sunny and only progressed to black skies as the half progressed.

Player of the match Kate Rogers put Harts in the lead from a superb short corner conversion.

The second goal came from an awesome cross from right winger Sam Vaughan who picked out Gina Joseph in the goalmouth.

On the stroke of half time, the heavens opened and the game had to be abandoned.
