In the Yetton Trophy first round against Herts Ladies, the two home teams of Jean Lock, Shay Mumford, Barbara Billingham and skip Gill Walker, together with Ann Fuller, Aileen Weaver, Yvonne Hull and skip Angie Fabris beat Herts Ladies 36-34.

The two away teams of Joan Welch, June Mills, Muriel Saunders and skip Gill Calver, together with Linda O'Flanagan, Noreen Gazely, Pat Goodwin and skip Jenny Ralph won 50-39.

This means Riverain won overall by 13 shots (86-73).

In the Vivienne Trophy first round, they thrashed Oxford and District by 48 shots (103-55).

The two home teams of Val Bacon, Mary Cole, Mina Reid and skip Veronica Mead, together with Joyce Rolph, Kath Maxwell, Jean Hayward and skip Shirley Houghton won by 50-29.

Riverain's two away teams of Sharon Allen, Pat Smith, Marjorie Emery and skip Barbara Eddington, together with Enid Newman, Barbara Turner, Dorothy Whitlock and skip Diane Porter won by 53-26.

But there was defeat for the ladies in the Linford Trophy against Desborough by three shots (43-40).

The Riverain ladies were Linda O'Flanagan, Joan Welch, Heather Stapleford and skip Rose Castle, together with Sharon Allen, Jane Saunders, Jackie Milton and skip Barbara Billingham.

The men had a tough draw in the second round of the Denny Cup against Whiteknights and were beaten by 60 shots (117-57).

Their opponents featured two England internationals in their squad, Robert Newman and Mark Bantock.

The home teams of Roger Davies, Bob Ashby, Tom Cawdell and skip Darren Hickin, together with Mat Coppen, Terry Boniface, Graham Albone and skip Jim Allen lost by 65-22.

The away teams of Mick Allen, Jimmy McIntyre, Gavin McLaren and skip Tony Webb, together with Brian Leadley, Alan Cross, Ian Perton and skip Martin Brackley lost 52-35.

In the men's over-60s double rink B team, they lost by 10 shots (27-17) to Foxhill.

The home rink was Derek Ellis, Terry Saunders, Terry Godden and skip Mark Cave, and the team which went to Foxhill were Bernie Drummond, Don Edwards, Dennis Eddington and skip Ted Fuller.

The double rink A team beat Herts by 15 shots (49-34). The home rink was Brian Leadley, Bob Ashby, Laurie Ramsay and skip Alan Cross, and the away team was Alan Warren, John O'Dell, Terry Boniface and skip Arthur Hemmings.

There was a full six-rink victory for Riverain over Hatfield in the men's county league (173-84).

Scores: Arthur Hemmings won 25-16, Jimmy McIntyre won 27-15, Jimmy Allen won 25-18, Paul Bryant won 38-11, Alan Cross won 35-8, Ted Fuller won 23-16.

Riverain also enjoyed friendly wins over Hatfield (100-64) and Datchworth (89-56) but were beaten by King George's (145-171).

Skips versus Hatfield: Ray Hughes lost 16-23, Jim Baird won 27-21, Pat Smith won 27-12, Peter Barritt won 30-8.

Skips versus Datchworth: Roy Clay lost 20-21, Terry Booth won 21-10, John Gee won 24-12, Ron Clark won 24-13.

Skips versus King George's: Sam Skinner lost 21-22, Bert Saich lost 19-23, Pat Clark won 23-16, Paul Bryant lost 14-16, Derek Clark lost 12-23, Doug Major lost 22-27, Roger Shinner won 22-18, Barbara Clark lost 12-26.

P Stevenage Leisure Centre IBC played another local derby against the Three Horseshoes.

They played on four rinks, and won by 17 shots (81-64), winning on two rinks, losing on one and drawing on one.

Their highest rink was the one skipped by Bill Williamson, with Ann Graham, Dennis Playle and David Graham.

P Stevenage Nomads had a good win last Wednesday at Cheshunt IBC by 30 shots (135-105).

The top rink was Dorothy Whitlock, Janet Riley, John Goddard and Peter Clark (35-10).

P Herts IBA won by 26 shots (175-149) against hosts Riverain on Tuesday.

The county lost narrowly to Middlesex in their Courtenay Cup league match last Wednesday. The county side went down by four shots (112-108) at Kentish Town, London.
