Hitchin Salto DMT - which recently switched its training base from Luton to Hitchin - won four medals at the double mini trampoline national championships.

The squad, which includes six members of the national squad, were competing in Hull hoping to retain their five national titles.

Their three senior male competitors all fell foul of inappropriate equipment and Sarah Jones overturned her final double somersault, toppling them all from the potential gold medal positions in which they entered the final round.

But nine-year-old Georgia Downing retained her national title in the under-13 grade two title despite most of her rivals being anything up to four years older than her.

Georgia has to go up to grade one to be eligible to represent Great Britain in the International Age Games in Canada in November 2007.

She is certainly expected to qualify for the 11 to 12 years category and coach Lorraine George has high hopes that she will return from Canada as champion.

Georgia trains with the seniors and national youth team members Michael Dodson and Jennifer Bloodworth who represented Great Britain at the last world championships.

The squad previously trained at and represented Salto Gym Club in Luton until the trustees decided to reduce their training time to one session.

Hitchin Boys' School Sports Centre came to their rescue, providing full training facilities, and they are now happily settled in the town.

Jennifer won bronze at the competition in the under-17 grade one section with new squad members Oliver Rowlands and RosannaMay Cannon taking gold and bronze in their respective under-13 grade two categories.

All eight, together with Kirsty Ward, a former British champion who is coming out of retirement, are expected to fly the flag for Britain in Canada.
