Stotfold schoolgirl Alexandra Greasby was a great success at the European Dry Ski Slope Championships at Hill End, Edinburgh.

The 12-year-old improved on her bronze of the previous year despite the weather conditions making the race additionally challenging.

Many of the racers were caught out by the infamous top section of the Edinburgh slope called The Face which has defied countless competitors over the years.

Despite the cold and high winds, strong enough to close the main lift, she successfully completed both the slalom and giant slalom races.

Alexandra won gold in the female under-12s slalom race (eighth overall) and silver in the female under-12s giant slalom race (13th overall). The results top off an excellent racing year with several victories around the UK.

These include winning the female under-12 Celtic Cup competition (a Welsh six-race championship) and the Eastern Region Ski Association championships final in the under-12 category.

Alexandra trains twice a week at the Hemel Ski Race Club and will be training on snow with the British Ski Academy in Les Houches in France this winter.

She is looking forward to competing in the BARSC (British Alpine Racing Ski Club) Championships this January as well as preparing for the English and British championships in France in April.

With focused training and improvement, Alexandra has set her sights on trying out for the British children's ski team in April 2007.
