Potton ready for home tie in Vase

Potton United are looking to make progress in the FA Vase at home to Ruislip Manor on Saturday.

The Royals played mostly a reserve side in losing 4-2 against Conference South side Bedford Town in the Beds Senior Cup on Tuesday night as they wanted to ensure a full-strength side would be available for the Vase tie.

They welcomed the return of first team keeper Brad Gillham, who has missed the last six weeks through injury.

Bedford took the lead in the 11th minute but this was cancelled out by Rob Cornfoot after half an hour.

Two goals before half time gave Bedford a 3-1 lead.

Potton played some good football in the second half but were unable to break through the home defence.

Bedford scored their fourth goal before Simon Desborough snatched a late consolation in the dying seconds.

Potton won 3-1 at home to Ford Sports in an explosive game on Saturday.

After a non-event of a first half against the league's basement boys, the second half certainly exploded into action with four goals and three red cards.

Fords took the lead 10 minutes after the break, Steve Graham pulling off a fine save from a free-kick but Tommy Waldock on hand to fire in the rebound.

The visitors were then reduced to 10 men when Ian Waldock was sent off for an attempted headbutt.

Soon after, Paul Garrett equalised for the Royals, within two minutes of coming on as a sub, running on to an Ian Morrison through ball.

A moment of madness from visiting keeper Iulius Stzatulat virtually gave the game to Potton when he headbutted Luke Donnelly for no apparent reason.

He also received his marching orders and Potton were awarded a penalty which Nathan Buckland converted.

The visitors were reduced to eight men when Vitali Lungu reacted to a Mark Bryant challenge, deliberately stamping on the Potton midfielder.

Luke Lincoln ensured that Potton gained all three points with a well-taken goal in the last minute.

Biggleswade Town were beaten 2-1 at Chalfont St Peter on Saturday.

After being two goals down at the break - the second from a dubious offside decision - Town stormed back and were rewarded 10 minutes into the half.

Scott Orphanou was hauled down in the penalty area and Ryan Jenner made no mistake from the spot.

Biggleswade United were stunned by a winner in added time as they went down 3-2 at home to Oxhey Jets.

Garry Beadle's free-kick ensured it was daylight robbery after Wayne Goldsmith and Jack Weeden had given United a 2-1 lead with 20 minutes to go.

P Town came out on top by the odd goal in three in last Wednesday's derby between the two Biggleswade teams.

New manager Chris Nunn drafted in players from Newmarket and Swaffham to bolster the midfield and defence but the Waders were missing the suspended Cameron Clark and Ben Stocker.

Early United pressure paid off in the 11th minute as Keith Thomas gave them the lead.

Town slowly began to get more into the game and their new faces began to have an influence.

Danny Bowgett hit the crossbar from distance and Ryan Jenner tried to round the keeper and hit the side netting.

On the stroke of half time, Jenner fired an angled shot into the net for the equaliser.

Waders began the new half on the offensive and winger James Molley put them ahead after 52 minutes following some good work by Bowgett.

P Sandy Upper School won their group but were knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Midlands regional round of the PlayStation Schools' Cup five-a-side tournament.

They were unbeaten (seven wins and two draws) in winning their group but lost 4-1 to eventual winners Penyrheol Comprehensive School in the last eight at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham last Wednesday.
