Marriotts gymnast Mollie Smith has added another national medal to her growing collection.

She was a medallist in the national inter-regional team championships at Basingstoke on Saturday.

Mollie was competing as a member of the Eastern Region team at the event.

After a long and close day of competition, involving 10 regional teams from around the country, the Eastern Region were in bronze medal position.

The Eastern Region comprises the counties of Herts, Beds, Cambs, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk.

The six-gymnast team was chosen from a recent qualifying competition.

This was Mollie's fourth national medal of 2006.

She had previously won individual gold at the grade three national final, as well as gaining a gold as a member of the Eastern Region team in the event.

Mollie also won a silver medal in her age group in the Scottish national championships.

n Marriotts Gym Centre was the venue for the county teams competition on Sunday.

In the county competition, the team comprises four gymnasts, with the highest three scores on each piece counting towards the team score.

At level three, the team of Maddison Maranian, Katie Bell, Anna Young and Lauren Doherty just missed out on retaining the level three title, taking the overall silver medal.

At level four, the Marriotts gymnasts suffered with some falls on beam.

The team of Olivia Harry, Lucy Young, Jessica Barfoot and Sophie Cripps took bronze, with the team of Tayah McCrieth, Rebecca Lees, Anne Rees and Alexandra Radjenovic in fourth place.

The Marriotts level five team of Emma Chambers, Melanie Grigg, Catherine Hemminway and Corey Williams finished just out of the medals in fourth place.
