Ladies' football round-up

Arlesey Town Ladies were 4-1 winners over bottom of the league Huntingdon Town.

The Blues wrapped the game up in the first 25 minutes as they scored four times to gain the three points.

Their pressure paid off in the fourth minute as Sarah Tayler took the ball from the halfway line, down the right, and scored in the bottom corner.

As the rain poured down, Arlesey continued with their impressive start to the game.

In the 14th minute, Tayler made an excellent run up the right wing, and her cross found the head of Libby Pennett for the second goal.

A Tayler corner was cleared but she collected it and a superb strike from the edge of the area saw the ball fly into the top corner.

Determined play and strong passing between Pennett and Karen Walker saw Mia Price through on goal in the 24th minute with just the keeper to beat.

Price's strike bounced awkwardly in front of the keeper, and given the wet conditions, skimmed up over the goalie's head and in.

Huntingdon pulled one back on the half hour via a free-kick.

This was the end of the scoring and kept Arlesey fourth in the table.

Their second team were beaten by a single goal by Luton Borough.

Sunday saw Stevenage Boro Ladies at home for the first time since the beginning of the season.

They met close rivals Sawbridgeworth and shared the points in a 1-1 draw.

Boro started well with Sawbo's goalkeeper making a great reaction save from left-winger Jay Madden in the early periods of the first half.

They went ahead with a free-kick on the left-hand side of the box. Centre-back Dominique Godbeer floated in a great ball which was headed in by the Sawbo central defender.

Sawbo capitalised on a mistake at the back and got their equaliser just before half time.

The game was definitely one of two halves with Sawbo coming out the stronger in the second.

Boro are now sixth in the table after six games.

Hitchin Hearts were 2-0 winners over Kings Sports Luton in their Herts and Beds League Cup match.

The Luton side were back at Ickleford in the league cup two weeks after their defeat in the league.

They kept a clean sheet in the first half with a determined defensive display.

Both sides found the appalling conditions of continuous rain a hindrance to their efforts.

In the second half, Hearts looked stronger and kept the ball in the Kings Sports half for long spells. The deadlock was finally broken as top scorer Becky Saunders fired hard and low past the keeper following good work from Jade Turner and Laura Wilkie.

The second goal followed from a corner, Wilkie's initial effort came back off the line but the clearance only got to the edge of the penalty area before 'Ronnie' D'Amico fired in an unstoppable shot to secure their place in the next round of the cup.

Kirsty Duguid was player of the match and both Turner and Sammy Porter were in contention with great performances.

Two Nikki Day goals were not enough on Sunday as Langford Ladies lost 4-2 to Ipswich Town in a battling performance.

Langford went one up on 25 minutes with Day's first coming from a 25-yard free-kick.

Naomi Lyons went close to adding a second before Ipswich hit back with two goals in quick succession to lead at the break.

The second half saw Day's second long range free-kick on the hour draw the sides level.

Ipswich went ahead again on 65 minutes with a header from a well-delivered corner.

Lyons and Laveena Betts both had chances to equalise but as Langford pressed, Ipswich hit them on the break to score their fourth.

Reds squad: Jaide Stewart, Hanna Garatt-Kirk, Nikki Day, Sheree Oliver, Laura Bright, Debbie Styles, Laveena Betts, Shelley Forster, Laura Shearwood, Naomi Lyons, Faye Rees.
