There was no rest for the successful as Marriotts gymnasts were in action twice over the weekend.

The club's acrobatic gymnasts had considerable success at Ipswich in the regional championships on Saturday.

In the tumbling competition, there was a one-two for Marriotts with Evangeline Evans and Kelly Stringer taking gold and silver respectively in the preparatory C event.

There was further success in the national one level where Amy Haughton won silver in the 12 to 14-year-old section and Leanne Merrill achieved the same in the 15 plus age group.

Ellen Daly was well in the running for the medals in this event but made a mistake on her final tumble to finish fourth overall.

In the preparatory C pairs competition, Leanne Merrill and Emma Hepsoe took silver in the pairs competition, just missing out on the gold by half of a mark.

This was an excellent achievement in Emma's first competition.

Also representing the club at the regional event were Rachael Osburn, Francis Maydom, Joanna James and Nataliya Smethurst.

It was back to home ground on Sunday as Marriotts hosted the county recreational gymnastics apparatus competition.

This, except in the youngest age group, also serves as a qualifier for the regional apparatus event.

Marriotts had four representatives and all came away with medals, as well as the three older gymnasts qualifying for the regional final.

The competition is open to gymnasts who have not competed in an artistic gymnastics four-piece competition.

The gymnasts were Louisa Field (seven-year-old age group) who took bronze on beam, Bethany Suppa who won silver on floor and beam, bronze on bars and finished fourth on vault, and Elise Clements and Hannah Walker in the 13 plus age group who took joint bronze on vault, with Hannah taking bronze on bars and beam, and silver on floor.

* This weekend will be another busy one for the club. Mollie Smith represents the Eastern Region at the national inter-regional championships at Basingstoke on Saturday.

And on Sunday, the Marriotts Gymnastics Centre again hosts the Herts county teams championship.
