It was a perfect day at the zoo for one FVS TRI member.

Simon Hall sped to victory in the Whipsnade Wild Animal Park 10k, formerly the Dunstable 10k, in a superb time of 34:38.

Hall now principally competes in triathlon using such events as preparation for the multi-sport races. Although a little off his best, Simon was pleased with the results and enjoyed the scenic three-lap course around the zoo.

Six members of FVS TRI travelled to Somerset and Devon to compete in the UK leg of the Half IronMan 70.3 World Series.

The 70.3 is so called as it reflects the total distance of the three events that make up the triathlon event - 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and the 13.1 mile run.

Veteran ironman Ian Ellery was first home for the club in a time of 6-11:35. Close behind in his debut half ironman distance was Kevin Sambridge in 6-12:59.

Another veteran ironman Robbie Laughton made his competitive debut for FVS TRI and led home Marc Trussell, Pete Timmins and Bradley Baynham, all debutants at the distance.

Times: Ian Ellery 6-11:35, Kevin Sambridge 6-12:59, Robbie Laughton 6-25:02, Marc Trussell 6-27:13, Pete Timmins 6-36:52, Bradley Baynham 7-03:55.

Rob Bester competed in the Walden Tri and improved his best time from last year by just over three minutes. The race was over a 750m pool swim (15:33), unusual 28k bike (50:03) and 5k run (24:18).

* Cyclist Michael Summers continued to gain points towards his category one licence with a bunch finish 12th overall in the 70-mile Icknield Compomotive Road Race.

John Burgess continued his superb form with another personal best at the Ashwell midweek 10-mile time trial, second on the night with a 25:21.

Alison Clayton-Smith completed her first time trial, finishing the 12-mile Guilden Morden based event organised by Hitchin Nomads in 38:44. She was the fastest and only lady while husband Tim Smith recorded 33:00.
