Letchworth Ladies lost in a last-over thriller at Rowledge on Sunday.

They fielded first and an initial flurry of runs from Rowledge took them to 58 in 11 overs for the loss of both their openers.

Letchworth fought back with tight bowling from Vikki Borman and Julie Clarke which brought the run rate down to three an over at 30 overs and removed the middle order of Rowledge's batting.

This forced Rowledge to throw caution to the wind in the last 10 overs and wickets tumbled.

The final wicket fell on the last ball of the innings to Cindy Macintyre who wrapped up the tail with figures of 3-8 in four overs.

Letchworth made a shaky response losing their openers Clarke and Rachel Cheffy to identical deliveries.

Emma Cane and Borman rebuilt the innings, taking the score to 58 in 15 overs.

Cane was then run out and Borman was unlucky to be given out caught behind.

From then on Letchworth had to scratch for runs against accurate bowling.

Sarah Ward (12) and Sophie Field (16no) stuck to the task and when Ward's wicket fell there was still a real chance of a win with 11 needed from the last two overs.

Five runs came from the penultimate over but Kirsty Bendle was just unable to connect with the big hit needed to turn the game.
