PRESTON were left hanging on for survival in the Saracens Herts League Division Two.
Chasing 161 to win at Abbots Langley, Preston were 122-9 at the close.
Preston seconds lost their unbeaten away record at Abbots Langley in Division Six in a close encounter, going down by just two wickets.
They took first knock on a decent track but made hard work totalling runs. Top scorer was John Garnham with 46 backed up only by Simon Luxton (18) and Greig Hearne (16) in a miserly score of 127 all out.
The home side always looked shaky in reply but scrambled home with two wickets left. Casey Walker (3-36), Iain Williamson (3-35) and Andy Braithwaite (2-32) almost spoiled their party.
Ickleford Cricketers won by six wickets over Old Camdenians 2nds in Division Nine.
The old boys were inserted and made slow and painful progress on a wet wicket, reaching only 140 all out in 52 overs.
Jon Hare, in the form of his life, took 4-25 and fellow seamer Dave Allen took 3-53 in 25 overs.
In reply, opener Kevin Shinner struck a determined 66no, supported by a sparkling 31no from Ian Cousins as Cricketers crossed the winning line in the 45th over.
With their first team not playing - due to Cottered pulling out of the league - Baldock's second team took centre stage.
But they went down by 10 wickets to Harpenden Dolphins after being bowled out for only 59.
Martin McCulley (6-15) and Jim Hollis (3-13) helped bowl out Chorleywood 3rds to give Ickleford seconds an easy win. Chasing Chorleywood's 58 all out, Ickleford raced home by eight wickets with Steve Schumann unbeaten on 32.
