ROGER Biggs continued his quest to be the first Briton to run a marathon in all 50 states of the USA.

Biggs, the Fairlands Valley Spartans runner and winner of the male personality of the year at The Comet Sports Awards, ran the Grizzly Marathon in Choteau, Montana.

It's named the Grizzly as this is grizzly bear country!

Biggs was back in marathon form over a tough undulating course that had only seven miles of tarmac, the rest being loose gravel. He was 16th overall and third veteran (50 plus) in a time of 3-47:20.

There were 29 Spartans taking part in the first evening handicap 5k event since the end of the midweek league fixtures.

It was on the Gunnels Wood course in Stevenage last Thursday.

The winner on the night was Paul Schlote who finished in 20:40 to beat his handicap by 2:02. Fastest runner on the night was Simon Jackson who set a new personal best time of 18:06.

Jim Brown unusually went off road and ran the Sidmouth Festival Trail Race in Devon.

This was a hard run over 6.4 miles - a little more than 10k - and Jim was 44th in 48:44. There were 238 entries of which 221 finished.

Graham Blackburn finished 11th out of 171 in the Isle of Wight half marathon. He had an excellent time of 1-29:20 for such a testing event. The course has a total ascent of 692 feet.
