Neil McLellan has been awarded a grant by Sport Stevenage to buy a new competition javelin.

The Stevenage javelin thrower recently finished third at the AAAs Championships.

McLellan said: "A competition javelin costs almost £600 and all the top throwers carry at least three of these high specification javelins, each for different weather conditions.

"I'm grateful to Sport Stevenage for this grant and look forward to throwing even further with the new javelin."

Neil is pictured receiving his grant from Wendy Gregory and Grahame Bowles, both from Sport Stevenage.

Competing at the inaugural Throws fest at Birmingham on Saturday, he capped a long day of throws with one of his best set of throws this year - three over 69m, one 70m and one 71m.

Neil took second spot, just behind Nick Neiland, the Commonwealth champion, and pushing the former world youth champion Dave Parker down into third place.
