The club members from Stevenage and North Herts AC have enjoyed success at both home and abroad.

They were competing in venues as varied as Poland, Birmingham, Ware, Kingston-upon-Thames, Fairlands Valley and Ridlins Stadium.

As well as the bronze medal joy for John Mayor (see separate story) at the European Masters Championships in Poland, there was a silver medal for Joylyn Saunders-Mullins in her age 50 plus group. Joylyn clocked 62.63 in her 400m event.

Godfrey Leake (60 plus) threw his discus 36.80m and hammer 37.60m.

P Javelin thrower Neil McLellan was also runner-up (see separate story) at the UK Athletics Challenge 'Throws fest' in Birmingham.

P The club's Eastern Young Athletes League team took third place in their match at Ware, well behind the mighty Bedford and County AC (804pts) and just behind host club Herts Phoenix (453pts) on 426 points.

The girls were the stars at this match placing first in nine events.

In the under-15 age group, Hollie Middleditch won the B strings in the shot (7.53m) and discus (16.82m), pairing up with Frances Gross in the discus (who won the A string with 22.13m). Louise O'Connell won the B string 800m (2:38.7).

Under-17 girls winners were Bunmi Awokoya in the 100m with 12.7 and shot with a personal best of 10.19m; Loren Scanes in the B high jump (1.25m); while Jo Mansell and Francesca Witney paired up in the 800m to win both A and B strings with 2:19.6 and 2:28.2.

Under-13 girls second places came from Monica Hamilton (discus, 17.32) and Alice Rackham (high jump, 1.25m).

In the under-15 age group, second places came from Hannah Sweetman (hurdles B 13.6) Anne Rees (200m B 29.7, shot A 7.97m, and high jump A 1.50m), Chloe Vernon Hamilton (800m A 2:41.5, and high jump B 1.45m), Hollie Middleditch (javelin B 10.02m), Amy Pring (1500 A 5:34.5) and Frances Gross (javelin A 11.09m).

Loren Scanes (discus A 21.60m), Jo Mansell (triple jump A 8.94m) and Francesca Witney (triple jump B 8.47m) were second in their under-17 age group.

The under-15 boys had three second placers - Nick Stoppard (80m hurdles A 12.8), Glenn Turner (100m B 12.5) and the 4x100m relay team (51.1).

Under-17 boys in second place were David Paar (100m hurdles 14.6), Josh Saydraouton (400m 53.9, and 800m 2.08.8), Aaron Reynolds (400m B 54.6) and Callum McKechnie (800m B 2:20.8).

P Seven under-13s represented Hertfordshire at an Inter-Counties match at Kingston.

This was their first representative event and they posted creditable performances.

Highest placed was Ed van der Berg (seventh in javelin 26.73m) and he also posted a personal best in the discus (20.44m) and competed in the shot (6.62m). Billie Vernon Hamilton in the shot put made a personal best with 7.36m.

Peter De'Ath and Jack Gates competed well, both at the bottom of the age group. Alex Gates, in her first year of the age group as well, had a consistent series to come eighth in her long jump competition (4.05m). Laura Saxon and Siobhan Hawkridge also competed well.

P The club entered four teams in the Fairlands Valley relays which incorporated the Herts County Championships.

Best team result was by the women who were third in the Herts championships (and fourth in the overall open event of 27 teams).

For the 3000m laps, Jo Mansell clocked 11.12, Sam McCormick clocked 12.12 and Sara Bailey ran a blinder to clock the third fastest woman's time of the whole event with 10.43.

The other women's team of Chloe Vernon Hamilton (12.12), Camilla Chilvers (12.54) and Tilly Scheuber (12.34) were eighth in the county event (10th in the overall event).

The men's teams had five legs of 3000m - the first team were fifth in the Herts event (seventh overall). Individual times were Adam Searle (10.02), Sam Poulton (10.54), Callum McKechnie (10.43), Peter Jones (10.24) and Dan Poulton (10.36).

The second team were 15th in the Herts event and 28th out of 46 in the overall event. Individual times posted were Josh Moss (11.00), Aaron Reynolds (10.40), Lewis Naylor (11.37), Paul Keeble (13.53 and Lewis Keeble (11.22).

P The 2006 club championships in which everyone runs 100m and 800m, long jumps and shot puts, and points scored are added and age graded, were held at Ridlins Stadium.

Winners were Shannon Rapacchi (under-13 girls), Alex Gates (under-13 girls), Moe Sasegbon (under-15 girls), Bunmi Awokoya (over-15 girls/women), Billie Vernon Hamilton (under-13 boys), Nick Stoppard (under-15 boys) and Glen Begley (over-15 boys/men).
