LETCHWORTH'S Mini Tennis players have been competing successfully in the Beds League this past term.

All three levels at red, orange and green won their first round matches, thereby moving forwards in the draw.

Two matches on, the red team finished runners-up in the competition, the orange team third and the green team fourth.

Well done to all those who competed, and thank you to Yvonne Latter, Kirsty Turner and Elaine Burkett for helping organise the teams.

In the new Herts Summer Outdoor Red Cluster League, Letchworth won two matches out of four, beating Lister and Sawbridgeworth, and losing to Gosling and Buntingford.

Well done to Edward Wilsher, Lukas Wait, James Wilkins, Adam Chilvers, Alex Zavadov and Jeremy Samuel. This was their first experience at red level of competitive Matchplay outdoors against other clubs.

Performance Programme: For the last seven months, the club has been running a junior performance programme, designed to cater for County and National tennis players.

The programme is growing at a rapid rate and we now have over 20 pupils on the programme.

Each player attends two, two hour training sessions per week involving fitness and on court work. They also have individual lessons and a competitive tournament schedule.

Steve Shea, Head Performance Coach at Letchworth, will be travelling with the players to several tournaments this summer, both in Hertfordshire and nationwide.

Their training kicks off again in September, so if you feel you have got what it takes and would like to know more about performance tennis, please contact Steve Shea on 01462 675444.
