A good mix of Stevenage's first, second and third teams saw the club to a handsome victory in the Becker Cup second round against Cockfosters on Sunday.

Led by first team captain David Carr, Stevenage were lucky enough to win the toss and bat first on another scorching hot summer's day at Cockfosters and the batting line up didn't let him down.

Carr himself made a rapid 91 and the in-form Berg blitzed 72 including several towering sixes out of the ground before middle and lower order runs from Albert Sodhi (39) and Amit Dattani (61 not out) saw the Stevenage total up to an intimidating 356 from their 50 overs.

With Stevenage resting Berg after his allround exertions on Saturday, Carr turned to the wealth of 3rd XI bowlers at his disposal and was not let down.

Tony Start got the defence of the huge total off to a good starting clean bowling one of Cockfosters' big hitters for 38 and then causing their captain to hole out to Dattani who running back from mid-off took a diving catch over his shoulder.

Paul Brewer provided the necessary pressure from the other end bowling 10 overs for just 46 runs and being rewarded with a wicket from a sharp leg-side stumping by Carr.

The Cockfosters run-rate remained high, but wickets fell steadily, a further three to stumpings and one to a run out by Barrie Reid, with first XI spinner Bayes picking up one and another to leg-spinner Mark Sinclair.

But the coup de grace was provide by 3rd XI vice-captain Kevin Fisher, who returned the incredible figures of 3-8 in just four overs and brought the Cockfosters innings to a dead stop 122 runs short of the target.
