Biggleswade suffered an agonising one-wicket defeat at the hands of Vauxhall Motors in the Beds Premier League.

Winning the toss and batting first, the top three fell with less than 30 runs on the board.

Jimmy Hart and Matt Twigg then put on 83 before Twigg was out for a watchful 29.

Hart followed for 44 in the next over and at 120-5 in the 33rd over, Biggleswade's chances of making a big total were diminishing.

Useful contributions from Dan Szwajbak, Tom Dupuy and a cameo innings from Frank Woodward dragged Biggleswade to 173-7 by the close of the innings.

Vauxhall were reeling at 57-4 in the 18th over with the next wicket falling at 99.

Wickets continued to fall regularly but Vauxhall captain Asif Khan stood firm and he began to open his shoulders.

Vauxhall were 152-9, needing a further 22 to win with one wicket remaining. Khan, although giving two difficult catching chances, saw Vauxhall home by top edging Dupuy's first ball over square leg for six.

Biggleswade went down by six wickets to Luton Caribbeans in the Millman Saturday One.

On a distinctly tricky wicket, Biggleswade should feel proud that they managed to score 186-5 in their 45 overs. A gutsy 48 from Tariq Ahmed was the highlight of the innings.

In his last game before moving back to India, 16-year-old Urvil Patel once again showed his class, bowling his 10 overs for just 37 runs and a wicket.

Too many loose balls were bowled as Luton Caribbeans cruised home with six wickets in hand with 12 overs to spare.

Biggleswade play Ickwell on both days this weekend, Saturday's game at home scheduled to start at 10am.
