A TEENAGER from Letchworth Garden City is hoping to make the grade in the Football League.
Nathan McDonald, who is 16 in May, will join Championship side Southend United this summer on a two-year apprenticeship.
The imposing six footer is now a goalkeeper having started out as a centre-half.
Nathan began playing for Letchworth Garden City Eagles before being picked up by Cambridge United.
He switched to Roots Hall in the summer of 2005.
Nathan, a Year 11 pupil at Highfield School, has even started a game in the reserves this season against Oxford United.
Football certainly runs in the McDonald family.
Nathan's dad Darren is a former centre-half at Hitchin Town, while his younger brother, 14-year-old Josh, is a central defender with the Stevenage Boro Academy.
