A teenage ten pin bowling star from Stevenage has achieved perfection.

Stuart Hynard has bowled a high game record and recorded a perfect game with a maximum score of 300 - 12 strikes in a row.

It was at the South of England Junior Open ten pin bowling championships at Go Bowling in Dunstable.

The tournament, sanctioned by the BTBA, takes place throughout January each year.

And on Sunday, the last day of the tournament, the 18-year-old did something that had never previously been achieved in the 15-year history of the tournament.

Stuart, a former pupil of The Thomas Alleyne School in Stevenage, has been bowling since the age of nine.

He started at Stevenage and transferred to Watford two years ago and bowls in the YBC League every Saturday.

Stuart said: "Most bowlers dream of bowling a perfect game and to do this in my last year of YBC and more importantly to be the first person in such a big tournament to do it is just amazing.

"I couldn't believe it - seeing that last strike go down was amazing.

"One of the other bowler's parents recorded it, so I will be able to sit and watch it.

"Mum takes me to Watford every week, sometimes twice a week, and all over the country to my tournaments - she was shaking more than me.

"This is my last year of youth bowling - what a way to go out!"

Stuart's other major achievements include second place in the UK nationals in 2006 and senior boys' champion at the South of England Junior Open in 2004.

The next big tournaments are the inter-county championships at Nottingham in March and then the UK nationals again in May.

This year Stuart received a grant from Stevenage Borough Council to help with training and tournament expenses.
