ONE man is in an ideal position to judge how George Boyd will fare at his new club.
Former Stevenage Boro boss Paul Fairclough is now in charge at League Two Barnet as well as running the England National Game XI representative side.
Boyd has joined Barnet's league rivals Peterborough United and has been a massive part of the success of Fairclough's national side in the last couple of years.
Fairclough (shown above) said: "I had a few raised eyebrows when I heard about the deal and not for the reasons you might think. It has been a magnificent piece of business for the clubs but I'm not sure about George himself.
"I don't think he will have any problems coping and in fact I thought he might have been ready for a higher platform.
"Look at Michael Kightly who went straight from Grays to Wolves and now even Manchester United are looking at him."
And Fairclough added: "We're sorry to see him go from the England side of things.
"George has been part of a very successful team and I've seen him develop into a fine player.
