The Lymphoma Association team, aka 'The Periwinkles', competed in a 15-a-side bi-annual international rugby festival.
In its first event other than the annual Robin Thorpe memorial match in North Herts, this invitational team contained a number of players from Hitchin Rugby Club at the festival hosted by Overton in Hampshire.
It was a perfect day with lots of good rugby, beer, a tournament win and a substantial sum of money raised for the charity.
Qualifying in second place from a tough group after victories over Inverleith (Scotland) and Geesthacht Harlekins (Germany) and a defeat by Paris Olympique (France), The Periwinkles progressed to the semis.
They met the hosts and winners of the other group, Overton, and won 3-0 thanks to a penalty, while Overton missed two penalties and two drop goal attempts.
The final was a rematch from the group stages against the fast and free-running Paris Olympique but The Periwinkles were victorious 20-3.
Skipper Karl Thorpe collected the Rams Head Trophy and the charity will also be benefiting from the £6,000 plus raised by the squad, family members and friends.
The annual Robin Thorpe memorial match will be at Hitchin on Saturday, April 28.
