Stevenage and North Herts AC had a busy weekend on two sunny days.

Their women and under-15 girls' team were at Sutton on Saturday for a Southern League match, and the boys and girls crossed the county to Watford for an Eastern Young Athletes League fixture.

The women's team was hit with absences due to school, work or university commitments as well as a couple of injuries, so the overall result of third of the five teams was satisfactory.

Hosts Sutton won with 213 points followed by Chelmsford (194), while Stevenage racked up 149 points, nine ahead of Crawley with Walton fifth on 117 points.

In the under-15 section, Anne Rees started her weekend's work by winning the high jump in a new personal best of 1.58m, three centimetres above the entry level required for the English schools' championships later in the summer.

Chloe Vernon-Hamilton joined Anne as a high jump winner, clearing 1.50m in the B string event.

Hollie Middleditch was the other age group winner with 16.46m to take the B string discus event.

Second places went to Chloe in the 800m A race (personal best of 2:32.4), Ashleigh Clarke and Hannah Sweetman in their respective 75m hurdles races, Laura Saxon in the B string shot and Anne Rees in the A string javelin and B string long jump.

Bunmi Awokoya, running in the under-17 80m hurdle race won this in 12.0, following this with another win in the 200m (25.8) and a second in the 100m (12.8).

Another good high jump result for the club came from Wendy Meadows Smith in the senior event, winning with 1.63m and then coming third in both the 100m hurdles and the triple jump.

Shelley McLellan won her shot put event with 11.39m and got the third place points in the B string discus.

Lauren Cunningham had a busy afternoon, winning her B string 800m, before also running in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay!

Nikki Andrews collected two second places with the B string high jump and the A string pole vault.

Further third places came from Jasmine Forde (800m A) Loren Scanes (hammer A), Jean Harris (100m hurdles B, pole vault B and hammer B).

The Eastern Young Athletes League fixture was convincingly won by the strong Bedford and County team with a massive points score of 751.5 in the seven-team match.

Local athletes performed brilliantly to take second place with 589.5 points ahead of Watford (485.5), Peterborough (455), Ilford (285.5), Vale of Aylesbury (247) and a small Enfield and Haringey team (116).

Many personal bests were set, particularly in the 200m and the high jump events.

Those under-13 girls competing were Alex Gates (two wins and a second), Alice Rackham (first and second), Ayo Awokoya (two seconds and a third), Emily Evans and Julie Dowding (both second) plus the 4x100m relay.

The under-15 girls had eight first places, all of them from girls who had already competed in the Saturday match.

Chloe Vernon-Hamilton led the way with three wins, with two for Anne Rees and one each for Ashleigh Clarke, Hollie Middleditch and Laura Saxon.

Second places came from Temi Fajobi, Hannah Dewhurst, Laura Saxon and Hollie Middleditch.
