There was a record number of entries for the fifth Boxing Day Run at Pirton.

The main Buntingford Brewery race attracted 270 adults and 40 children, and nearly 100 in the under-11 and under-seven Setter Play Equipment fun runs.

The run is always well liked as in the 2006 Runners World reader's ratings, the race was voted the 19th best race in the country, with people particularly enjoying the friendly and fun atmosphere and the warm welcome given to beginners.

At the finish, despite the poor conditions under foot, a number of course records fell.

Adam Peters knocked 20 seconds off his own record to set a new men's best of 17:03 and Natalie Barnard set a new women's best of 20:30.

By virtue of being the only over-75 ever to have completed the course, Ken Head set a new Vet 75 best of a sprightly 28:48!
