There were 35 Stevenage and North Herts athletes competing in race four of the Chiltern Cross-Country League at Slough. The weather was mainly sunny, the courses shorter than other league venues and were mainly flat parkland, although muddy and slippery.

Two members took first place in their age groups in Division Two.

Dan Poulton won the senior men's and Rebecca Newstead won the under-20 women's races.

Poulton clocked 29:26 and was followed in fifth place by Adam Searle (30:14), Marcus McKechnie 11th (third under-20) in 31:12, and Sam Poulton was 14th (fourth under-20) in 31:38.

Six over-40 veteran men followed on - Jeremy Rackham 20th (sixth over-40), newcomer David Stowker 21st (seventh over-40), Peter Eames 67th (22nd over-40), Paul Keeble 80th (25th over-40), Steve Pike 81st (26th over-40) and Stephen Pickett 84th (27th over-40). The team closed in second place.

Newstead led the under-20 and under-17 women's team to second place, clocking 18:06 in first place.

She was followed by Victoria Little in fifth (second under-17), Jasmine Forde in seventh, Natasha Little in eighth (sixth under-17) and Mathilda Scheuber in 11th place.

Josh Moss led home the club's under-17 men in second place (19:23) with Callum McKechnie sixth and Aaron Reynolds eighth. The team was also second.

Luke Langley for once got the better of Lewis Keeble to come third (13:50).

Keeble was fifth (13:57), Paul Spicer 11th, David Pickett 12th, David O'Connell 13th and Warren Herridge 14th.

In the under-11 events, Sophie Keeble was 20th and David Spicer was 38th in these joint Division One and Division Two races.

The under-15 girls were out in force, finishing third team although Hannah Dewhurst was unable to finish the race.

Chloe Vernon-Hamilton led them in in sixth place, Claire Ward was seventh, Sarah Pike 13th, Karen Meadows 16th and Bethany Hills 18th.

Alex Gates finished in 10th place as the lone under-13 girl.

With just one meeting to go, at Wing on February 9, the club is in second place in the division.

This will mean promotion if they can maintain the performances they have produced so far this season.

Club member Emma Kemp won the 400m Scottish Closed Indoor Championships held at the Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, clocking 57.51.
