Martina Barber competed for the first time in the Eastern Region Athletics Championships for Disabled People.

The Stevenage and North Herts AC member, who is 13, brought home two gold and two silver medals in her under-15 girls' age group at Cambridge on Saturday.

Martina won her 100m race in 16.5, and put the shot 4.82m to win that event.

Her silver medals came in the long jump (2.53m) and 1500m (6:53.7).

The Fairlands Valley Spartans duo of Simon Harris and David Bowker were also at Cambridge for the championships.

Simon completed all of his selected events, coming away with three golds and one silver meaning he is Eastern champion at 100m and 200m!

His performances were: shot 5.11m silver; 200m 32.7 gold; long jump 2.82m fourth; 100m 15.5 gold; 1500m 7:34 gold.

The 18 year old has been training with the Spartans for 14 months.

His times in the 100m and 200m are likely to be qualifying times for the National Disabled Athletics Championships in Blackpool later this year.

David had a great run in the 800m and won his race in a time of 2:24.9.

Chris King was first woman in the East Cambridgeshire Half Marathon based in Soham on Sunday with a time of 1-32:44.

In a race in which only 22 runners beat an hour and a half, Jim Brown was 24th in 1-30:59. Nick Stewart finished in 1-41:56.

Roger Biggs (3-40:40) and Paul Holgate (4-38:27) ran Saturday's White Peak Marathon which is entirely on the Tissington and High Peak Trails (former railway lines).

On Sunday, Biggs was 99th in the Dereham 10-mile road race in mid Norfolk with a time of 1-13:52.

Andrew Hull completed the Wheathampstead 10k in 48:42 on Sunday.

The North Herts Road Runners ladies' recorded a one-two at the Wheathampstead 10k on Sunday.

Natasha Pitman won the ladies' race over the hilly course in the Herts countryside in a time of 40:30.

Melissa Winters completed the club's dominant performance by finishing second in 40:40.

Some of the club's men were also involved in the race. Johnny Spinks completed the demanding course in 42:59, with Mike Mello finishing not far behind in 44:13.

Kieron McGill followed his impressive Midweek League performance with a personal best 1-03.55 at the Great Baddow 10 at the weekend.

Allison Cook travelled further afield to complete the historic White Peak Marathon near Matlock in 5-18.

Members of Hitchin-based triathlon club FVS TRI raced the Milton Keynes Sprint over a 750m open water swim, 20k bike and 5k run.

Mike Bridge and Mark Robertson battled for fifth and sixth respectively in times of 1-00:53 and 1-01:33 with Ian Mackerness second vet in 1-03:15.

John Rose finished in 1-13:30, Richard Melvern 1-14:51, Stewart Kay 1-18:43, Richard Easterbrook 1-18:56, Matt Hickman 1-19 and Will Long completed his first triathlon in 1-21:04.

Sam Tophill was second female vet in the Merchant Taylors Triathlon based in the school grounds completing the 1500m lake swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 2-51:46.

Andrew Forster completed the event in 2-38 and Simon Hall completed the half distance sprint in 1-14:50 for second vet.

Steve Harrison was not so fortunate at the Corus Elite Series Reading Sprint as he was taken down on the bike leg and had to retire with a cut arm and a damaged bike.

Harrison will be out for a couple of weeks and will miss the FVS TRI club championships which start this weekend at the Grendon Sprint. He hopes to be back and racing fit to compete in the Welsh leg of Corus Elite Series in July.

Gavin May and newest FVS TRI member Glen Marillier completed the Norlond TT Combine 50-mile time trial based on the A1 in respective times of 2-14:28 and 2-22:37.

Nine members completed the first in a weekly summer series of the Stevenage CC evening 10 time trials. The sporting course of just under 10 miles proved testing in the wind.

Mark Grayson was first home for the club in 25:30 followed by Craig Talbot 26:31, Tim Smith 26:40, Mike Russell 27:51, Tony Shortland 28:09, Suzy Hawkins 28:46, Penny Wylie 29:09, Darren Greene 29:25 and Steve Mussett 32:33.
