Preston firsts were left frustrated by the persistent rain in their Saracens Herts League Division Two encounter against Abbots Langley.

Only six overs were possible with Preston on 15 without loss when the game was abandoned.

The seconds travelled to play Abbots Langley seconds with just 10 men after a late withdrawal.

Abbots Langley batted first through almost constant drizzle and tight bowling in the latter stages from Kasey Walker (4-59) and veteran John Garnham (3-10) restricted them to 186-9.

In reply, Preston made another poor start by losing four quick wickets.

Opener Callum Blair and senior partner David Clark repaired the damage in a 50-run partnership.

After Blair laboured manfully and Clark harvested strongly through the legside, both fell in quick succession.

It was left to the tail to hang on for the draw as Preston ended 147-8.

The thirds visited Redbourn thirds and were delighted to dismiss the home side for only 120.

Newcomer Richard Starkey was the star with the ball taking 5-43 from 13 overs, backed up by Finlay Connah with 2-29.

In reply, only the in-form Peter Murrell (24) and Nigel Biggs (19) troubled the scorers as the home team dismissed Preston for 75 that included six ducks - appropriate in the weather conditions.

For the first time in the club's history, Preston fielded a fourth team in the Saracens Herts League on Saturday.

They entertained Chorleywood fourths who batted first and made 176-6. Guy Christopher (3-39) and Kieran Caldwell (2-7) were the pick of the bowlers.

In a spirited effort to chase the runs, Preston were all out for 145, top score being Ryan Christopher's 33 and next best debutant Terry Stephens 22.

* Preston's first team enjoyed a comfortable victory over Redbourn on Sunday, the highlight coming from 16-year-old Callum Blair with a well-constructed 96no.

The second team had to settle for a draw against London Colney in their friendly game on Sunday.

Preston batted first and made 179-7, Chris Newell (63) and Andy Braithwaite (40) the chief run makers.

In reply, Colney finished their innings on 149-7, with Bob Hearne (three wickets) and Braithwaite (four wickets) the pick of the bowling.
