Stevenage fighters have had a mixed time of it in the ring.
Club stalwart Terry Skipper was desperately unlucky to drop a majority decision in his Home Counties Senior ABA final against Oxford's Chris Wood at the Auction House, Luton.
Many ringside observers felt that Skipper's cleaner punches might have gained him the verdict.
Coach Dave Blows said: "In a week where Terry lost his grandfather and job within a couple of days, it was a mark of his will and dedication to continue to fight on."
Light welterweight Billy Crotty dropped another close one in his final against Bedford's Alan Lever. This was despite dropping Lever to the canvas in the third round.
The club still has two boxers left in the Senior ABA Championships with the next round against the Eastern Counties champions in the pre quarter-final.
Flyweight Danny Culling received a walkover to the next round.
Featherweight and England under-19 captain Bradley Evans won through his final at Luton with a superb performance.
This was against Oxford's 31-year-old former senior ABA national finalist Lawrence Lewis.
Evans' performance drew a standing ovation from the capacity crowd and the next round is this Saturday in Harlow.
Stevenage's Golden Gloves champ George Crotty won a silver medal in the Four Nations Championships in Sheffield.
He lost in the final 17-16 on a countback after drawing 7-7.
