One mistake cost the Blues a share of the points in their penultimate home game of the season.

Arlesey were forced to shuffle their back line with the suspension of right-sided defender Matt Waldron. On the plus side, skipper Ryan Oliva returned to the starting line-up.

The visitors included Ozie Foster, who was with the Blues for two seasons under Jon Taylor, and a good crowd turned out in the April sunshine.

If they had expected some some end-of-season mid-table mediocrity, it was far from it.

The game was end-to-end with both defences stretched but as in recent games, the home side's lack of firepower was again their undoing.

As early as the second minute, Lee Robinson was forced to punch clear an inswinging corner from the right.

Then some superb control from Foster from a wind assisted free-kick ended with a shot of less quality.

Arlesey also probed with Lee Tekell's shot lacking the power to beat visiting keeper Willis who was again in action to drop on a deflected free-kick from Craig Reynolds.

Reynolds then found Leon Gutzmore who cleverly made room to strike the ball wide.

The second half started with the tale of two free-kicks.

In the 58th minute Reynolds saw his effort superbly saved by Willis, and then not to be outdone, Robinson produced a save of equal quality to deny Hull.

The decisive moment arrived in the 72nd minute when the usually sound Matt Clark missed his clearance, allowing Crace to find the net.

Arlesey shuffled their pack with Ide Okojie, Shane Brown and Jamie Osbourne joining the fray in an attempt to pull the deficit back.

The nearest they came was in the 88th minute when Willis dropped the ball leading to a goalmouth scramble.

This resulted in Martin Young being shown a straight red car and assistant manager Andy Theodosiou following him to the changing rooms.

This was an unnecessary aside to a game played in the correct spirit in which Arlesey were worth of at least a share of the points.
