The two teams of the season in the North and Mid Herts Football League - Nirankari and Probuild - are battling it out for the Premier title.

In the only two games to beat the weather, both teams won to keep up their title challenge.

Nirankari kept their unbeaten record with a 4-2 win over Whitwell Village.

Whitwell took a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes from a well-taken goal by Ryan Foster but Nirankari equalised with a superb strike by Ricky Small on the half hour.

The visitors were well on top in the second half, and took the lead with a well-worked goal by Scott Orphanou on the hour. Nirankari added a third goal with a simple tap-in by Ben l'honore.

Whitwell grabbed a lifeline via an uncharacteristic error in the Nirankari defence as the ball was laid back to the keeper and was intercepted by Jamie Campbell to slot it home.

Nirankari responded with l'honore's second of the day and his 15th league goal this season.

His exquisite finish followed one-touch passing to keep them top of the table on goal difference with a game in hand.

Probuild thumped St Ippolyts 5-1 to maintain their pressure at the top.

Graham Wraight's long kick found Brian Chalice who was tripped in the penalty area.

But Gary Pomfret's penalty was superbly saved by the Saints keeper.

Minutes later, Lee Gribben found Jamie Campney who chipped the ball over the helpless keeper.

Five minutes later, Pomfret made it 2-0 after being given time and space to turn in the penalty area and fire home from Campney's cross.

The Saints defence failed to cut out another long ball from Probuild and Campney presented Richard Hall with the third goal on 32 minutes.

In the second half, Gribben's one-two with Pomfret ended with the fourth goal.

Adam Wombwell gave the Saints a glimmer of hope with a bullet header on 65 minutes.

Any comeback hopes were dashed by another quality finish on 68 minutes.

Pomfret was the provider again as he threaded a ball to Chalice who unleashed a ferocious strike that went off the inside of the post from 20 yards out.
