The ladies' vice-captain at Stevenage Golf Club has scooped a national tournament title win.

Lesley Lewin from Stotfold was one of four Stevenage members in the NAPGC (National Association of Public Golf Courses) Ladies All England Championship final at Abbotsley Golf Club near St Neots.

There were 100 ladies taking part in excellent weather in challenging conditions on Sunday who had qualified via their club competitions.

Lesley was the only golfer to record an under par round with net 69 to win the bronze division (for handicaps 21 to 36).

Audrey Pollard came fourth with net 82, while ladies' captain Jane Ritchie and Kathleen Muir also took part.

The ladies from the Stevenage club on the Aston course have been successful this year, with wins in ladies' open competitions.

Three members qualified for the NAPGC stableford final and will be playing at St Andrew's in September.

The mixed team of men and ladies have also reached the regional final of the Hawtrey competition to be played later this month.

Although the ladies' section is small at Stevenage, they are a keen group who welcome new members of all standards to join.

You do not need to be competitive - just enjoy the game at a friendly club with an interesting course. Call 01438 880424 for further details.
