CODICOTE Football Club are to groundshare at Hertford Town's Hertingfordbury Park for the next two seasons.

The villagers cancelled a similar agreement they had forged with Hitchin Town, which allowed Codicote to enter the FA Vase, in favour of one with the East Herts club.

The opportunity arose at Hertford after the Blues decided to fold their reserve team.

Codicote's director of football Jim Bundy said: "We have decided to terminate our original groundshare agreement with Hitchin Town for a number of factors.

"We approached Hertford Town with the view of playing our home games, including FA Vase home ties, for this coming season. We are delighted to confirm that Hertford Town have agreed for this coming season, and also the following 2009-10 season."

First team boss Dan Kennoy, who also runs Hitchin Town Reserves, added: "It's disappointing to have had the Hitchin link cut. Being involved with both them and Codicote, I could have left my sheepskin coat on the peg after each game!

"On a serious note, from a financial and football point of view, this was the best option."

Kennoy is pleased with the deal as if his side go up this term, they will already be using a ground fit for the next step of the non-league game.

"With a two-year agreement, we have the luxury of a home ground that will meet league promotion standards should we finish in a promotion spot at the end of this season," he said.

"With Hertford's ground already receiving the go-ahead for their FA Vase games, it means that we can also debut in the competition this season and try our luck again next season.
