Preston were tumbled for just 100 by Welwyn Garden City seconds in the Saracens Herts League Division Two.

They won the toss and elected to field on a decent looking pitch. The decision seemed a good one as a run out occurred off the first ball of the innings.

Welwyn GC sped to 40-1 in seven overs before a middle order collapse at the hands of Mark Waters (3-31) and Samaraweera (5-50) saw them fall to 60-7. A matchwinning stand then took place, aided by a couple of dropped catches, which took Welwyn GC past the 100 mark and the innings ended on 135 in 45 overs.

Preston's reply got off to a disastrous start and the innings was in tatters at 11-3.

They found themselves 38-7 before some stern resistance, Samaraweera top scoring with 22, enabled them to reach 100.

The seconds clung on for a draw against Boxmoor.

On winning the toss, Boxmoor elected to bat first and made steady progress throughout their innings to finish on 240-2 with opener Pimms carrying his bat for a sparkling unbeaten 110.

Preston struggled from the start with their reply and never looked like reaching the target.

Paul Constantatropolis top scored with 52 and Matt Brolley made 24 as Preston held out for a draw on 190-9.

The thirds raced to their fifth consecutive league win to overtake visitors and near neighbours Ickleford in the table.

Away skipper John Cheeseman asked Preston to take first knock and home skipper Dave Saunders responded with a rapid 74. This paved the way to a total of 230-5 declared in only 41 overs, Jack Byford contributing a fine 55.

Tom Brown then sent Ickleford packing with a lively spell of pace bowling (5-33), with Steve Monk taking 3-15 from the same end with his finger spin. Ickleford crumbled to 80 all out to end the game pointless and Preston took 30.

The fourth team came unstuck at Berkhamsted. Daniel Goddard's troops were invited to bat first and only Mandeep Khurana (11no) looked in good form as Preston were skittled for 98. It was Khurana that took the only wicket as Berko eased to a nine-wicket win.
