The third Stondon Masters Tournament on Saturday was played in lovely weather at Mount Pleasant Golf Club.

The tournament is open to anybody living in Stondon and attracted a field of 23 golfers.

And for the first time the winner was a member of Mount Pleasant!

Matt Baxter (26 handicap) scored a superb 42 points, beating his father, Andy (13 handicap), into second on 38 points. In third was Mary Peilow (17 handicap) with 34 points.

Nearest the pin on the 10th was Andy Baxter and nearest the pin in two on the 18th was John Bennett.

Robert Bloomfield Middle School in Shefford held the inaugural 'Bloomfield Cup', a team event played in a Ryder Cup format, on Friday afternoon.

Teams consisted of 12 pairs made up of parents and children.

The best parents score was Martin Derbyshire with 21 points, with Lee King second on 19 points. The first schoolchild was Matt Baxter with 22 points, closely followed by Jack Mordecai on 21 points.

Nearest the pin on the first was Gavin Simkins. The parents longest drive was won by Lee King and the schoolchild's straightest drive was won by Jack Mordecai.

The club's ladies played Millbrook at home on Sunday and won the match 4-0. This was a first for the Mount Pleasant ladies.

The mid-handicap team recently played Leighton Buzzard at home. Buzzard had not lost a game in the league, but Mount Pleasant made good use of the home advantage and won 4-1.

* There was some excellent scoring in Henlow Golf Club's monthly stableford competition on Sunday.

Garry Pratt (nine handicap) had a convincing victory by three shots with a tremendous score of 40 points. In second place with a good score of 37 points was Steve Bowen and Brian Hare the seniors captain took third place on countback with 34 points.

Henlow seniors visited Chalgrave Manor last Thursday and made it six wins in a row.

They took the first three matches before Chalgrave fought back and won the next two.

The overall result hung on the last match which went all the way to the 18th hole where Phil Mitchell and John Dudgeon secured a half which was enough to clinch the win for the Henlow team.
