Baldock Town Letchworth booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Aubrey Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Hitchin Town Arena in a scrappy cup tie at the County Ground.

The visitors, who have been scoring goals for fun in Division One this season, dominated possession in the opening 20 minutes without really threatening the home goal.

Baldock Town opened the scoring on 24 minutes with their first decent attempt on goal.

Hitchin Town Arena goalkeeper Ed Rhodes-Winsor made a hash of a cross from the left under pressure from Danny Bennett and in-form forward Harry Holland thumped in the loose ball from close range.

As the half went on, both Craig Skelton and Ryan Foster went agonisingly close to an equaliser.

It was the home side who moved further ahead.

Another fine move started with man of the match Nick Stillwell down the left who worked the ball to Darren Matussa and back to Stillwell. He then fed the tireless Gareth Grant who skipped past a defender in the box before thumping home.

Grant's goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of Hitchin Town Arena and had it not been for Scott Grant, Matussa and Lee Rusbridge all missing sitters, it could easily have been a more resounding scoreline.

Baldock Town march on to play last season's finalists Bovingdon in the last eight, while Hitchin Town Arena can now concentrate on mounting a serious title charge in Division One.

Codicote kept their unbeaten run going by beating Knebworth 4-1 at home, while Letchworth Garden City Eagles lost to Sarratt 4-2.

Bedwell Rangers were at home to Croxley Guild and lost by the odd goal in three.

Goalkeeper Mark Dunsworth pulled off save after save to keep Bedwell in the game early one but Croxley broke the deadlock in the 25th minute and doubled their lead 10 minutes later.

Bedwell got back into the game after the break and pulled one back when Lloyd Taylor's corner was cleared off the line for Paul Norris to head home for his first goal of the season.

Luke Norris believed he had won a penalty late on but the referee only pointed for a corner instead.
