Letchworth Hockey Club have achieved the All England ClubsFirst accreditation.

This accreditation is hockey's version of the Sport England Clubmark Award which recognises clubs that offer safe, effective, child friendly environments.

Letchworth have met all the criteria of this national scheme and were delighted to accept the award after 18 months of hard work.

The team involved in bringing about the successful application held several meetings to put into place all of the requirements of the award.

The All England Hockey Association have now rubber stamped the standards and procedures Letchworth adopt in running a successful junior section and also the way in which the club looks to improve and develop as a whole.

Pictured is club captain Tom Coulter receiving the ClubsFirst certificate from Katherine Lymer from the All England Hockey Association.

Also shown are Deborah Wren and Rowena Wehrmann who along with others put together the accreditation file.

* Letchworth have a close schools/club link with Knights Templar and have run several successful activities throughout the year both at the club and at the school.

These have involved all the junior schools in the region and have encouraged several young players to start training at Letchworth.

The junior section is lively with 50 plus youngsters attending training every Sunday morning. They are taught by a team of qualified coaches and volunteers.

They play regular matches in the Herts Junior League at under-nine, 11, 13 and 15 levels.

If anyone would like to play or coach, come along on Sunday mornings between 10am and 12.30pm at Whitethorn Lane.
