One teenager from Comet country enjoyed himself as the Federation of Inline Speed Skating held the 2008 British Championships at Tatem Park in London recently.

More than 100 speed skaters from across the UK attended the event.

Jordan Thomas, aged 14, who lives in Letchworth Garden City and attends the John Henry Newman School in Stevenage, competed in four events in the category which features children aged between 13 and 16.

In his weaker events, Jordan finished fifth in the 3000m and fourth in the 5000m.

However, in the 200m time trial, Jordan received the silver medal for finishing second in a time of 21.035, only 0.454 seconds outside the British record.

Also, in the 500m race, Jordan received another silver medal for finishing second in a time of 47.855.

In both races, he was pipped to the gold by a boy from Essex two years his senior.

Jordan skates for the Eastern Region Roller Speed Association which is managed by Malcolm Chapman from Stevenage.
