Baldock gained a vital win against St Albans West Indians to return to fourth and a promotion spot in the Saracens Herts League Division Five.

A win against Old Haberdashers this Saturday will see them promoted to Division Four.

Having lost the toss, Baldock were asked to field and got off to a perfect start as the captain Duguid was run out for nought by Rob Peacock and James McHaul bowled number three Goldson.

Tim Dean and Alistair Jones bowled with great economy in the middle overs.

Dean had taken a further three wickets with the score at 125-6 before the West Indians rallied with a counter attack to 179 all out off 49.3 overs.

Dean was excellent in his 18-over spell in taking 6-37 and getting over the 50-wicket mark for the season.

Baldock's reply saw Barry Gazely and Rob Peacock put on 52 for the first wicket before slipping to 83-3.

Peacock was bowled by a beauty for a superb 52 and Matt Ayre was dismissed for a fine 44 as Baldock needed 17 to win.

Then the ever reliable Julian Muir and Jones saw Baldock to a hard-fought victory by three wickets.

* The seconds played Greenwood Park at Baldock and had a winning draw.

Baldock scored a healthy 212-6 declared off 50 overs with Andy Diplock making a solid fifty and Abu Monsur scoring a 30-ball half century which included two huge sixes.

Greenwood Park never really threatened and reached 156-9 in 50 overs despite the best efforts of all the bowlers. Graham Letford took two wickets as did Phil Lucy.

The thirds were well beaten by Division 13 champions Redbourn thirds.

Already relegated Baldock were bowled out for a paltry 90 and Redbourn got home by eight wickets in 21 overs to seal an easy victory.

It brought to an end a disappointing first season for the third team.

Many of Baldock's colts - Luke Mongston, Jack Mead, Sam Bonnet, Josh Mason, Ryan Batty and Ben Cave - have played this year and done themselves proud.
