Stevenage and North Herts' pole vaulter Louise Shortland has broken her own club record.

She flew over the bar at a height of 3.65m to set a new pole vault club record, beating her own previous best by 5cm.

The senior woman was one of the club's winners at their last league match of the season at Hemel Hempstead.

In a close match, with just five and a half points covering first to third, Stevenage and North Herts (144.5pts) were third team, behind Dacorum and Tring (154) and Reading (148), and beating Crawley (95.5pts).

In the senior age group, covering under-17s, under-20s, seniors and veterans, two firsts and one second place were gained by Moe Sasegbon, winning the A high jump (1.65m), and 300m hurdles (pb of 48.6) and second in the 80m hurdles (pb of 12.7).

Wendy Meadows-Smith won the B high jump and Ashleigh Clarke won the B 80m hurdles.

A double win in the 400m hurdles A and B went to Sandra Reed and Lizzie Hutchinson.

Shelley McLellan and Bunmi Awokoya did the same in the shot, as did Beccy Knapp and Loren Scanes in the hammer event. Julia White was the other senior winner in the B 400m hurdles.

The other team members were veteran women Joylyn Saunders-Mullins, Sandra Reed and Chris Feely, joined by Fran Witney, Louise O'Connell, Tilly Scheuber, Nikki Andrews, Beth Harris, Bethan Scanes, and Deandra Smith.

In the under-15 age group, there were two winners - Janet Brown won the A high jump and Fran Maydom the B javelin. Second places were collected by Claire Ward (800m A, 75m hurdles B), Hannah Dewhurst (1500m A), Ayo Awokoya (shot A), Sophie Goddard (shot B and discus A) and Shannon Rapacchi (A javelin).

The other team members collecting minor place points were Sophie Keeble, Kathryn Sweetlove, Martina Barber, Charlotte Baird, Sarah Pike, and Jade Barber.

In a quiet weekend for Fairlands Valley Spartans, Roger Biggs (5-03:53) and Mark Sanders (5-15) completed the hilly Seaford Off Road Marathon.

And Jim Brown was once again at one of his favourite events - the last Friday in the month 5k race around the Serpentine in Hyde Park, London. His 20:38 was a small improvement on last month and he was 89th out of the 211 finishers.

Peter Scrowther of the North Herts Road Runners was in action at the Serpentine Last Friday of the Month race in Hyde Park.

He completed the deceptively hilly course in 23rd place and 18:33. He was fourth in the V45 age category.

Stewart Bryant was also fourth in his age group, the V50s, finishing in 40th place and a time of 18:57. Martyn Annetts finished 52nd in 19:37 and posted a 28-second improvement on his time over the same course in July.

Keiron McGill achieved a new best over 5k at the Barking 5k and he completed the course in 18:12 to come home in 24th position.
