Hitchin Hearts made it four wins out of four in returning to Beds and Herts Women's League action.

It was against a resilient Bedford Ladies side who made the Hearts work really hard for their 4-0 win.

Holding on to a slender 1-0 lead courtesy of Gemma Penny's goal, manager John Hawkins brought on sub Frankie Locock 10 minutes into the second half.

In her previous game, Frankie scored a hat-trick and she ensured Hearts got the points with another scintillating three goals.

Becky Scott, making her debut in goal, produced a couple of fine saves that helped her side keep their fourth clean sheet and hard-working midfielder Kirsty Duguid got the player of the match award.

Although not being in the leading pack at the moment, Hearts have played substantially less games than the sides above them.

* Injuries finally took their toll on Baldock Town Ladies as they lost 5-3 to a strong Leighton United side.

Leighton took the lead in the 24th minute, before Fiona Harris levelled the scores but only for 15 minutes as the visitors hit back with some outstanding play to net their second.

The home side responded with Michelle Smith's shot bouncing off an opponent's shoulder for an own goal, bringing the scores level at half time.

Baldock took the lead in the second half with a great goal from Smith but visitors Leighton never gave up and levelled once again.

Town, struggling with injuries went down to 10 players, and a strong Leighton side took the lead. Baldock missed several chances and with five minutes left, Leighton scored their fifth and last of the match.
