THERE’S a chance to shine at the Olympic torch relay in Stevenage.

Volunteers are needed to be part of the action at this once in a lifetime event.

Stevenage Borough Council in partnership with Stevenage Volunteer Centre is looking for volunteers aged 18 and over to help marshal and steward the relay as it passes through the town on Sunday, July 8 on its way to launch the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Councillor Howard Burrell, executive member for children and young people, culture, sport and leisure, said: “Stevenage is very proud to welcome the torch and be a part of the London 2012 Games.

“Lending a hand in the relay will be a great chance to get involved in one of the most momentous events in the country’s history.

“If you missed out on tickets for the Games or even if you got them, the torch relay will be a fantastic chance to experience the Olympic spirit first hand here in Stevenage.”
