GHOSTS, highwaymen and police chases are just a few of the ideas behind entries to this year's Comet short story competition.

Writers around North Herts and Mid Beds have been at their computers typing away to try and win the top prize of Ottakar's book tokens and a collection of books courtesy of Bloomsbury Publishing.

The competition, in association with 1book4stevenage, is split into two categories: under 16s and 16 and over.

All entries will be read by our judges including best-selling author Ken Follett.

If you have an idea for a 400-word story set in Stevenage, get writing.

Send your stories and contact details, as well as which category you are entering in, to editorial@thecomet.net or by post to The Comet, Bank House, Primett Road, Stevenage, SG1 3EE.

Closing date for the competition is July 11 and The Comet will publish the names of the winners.
