A SUSPECTED attempt to endanger life by setting fire to a hotel filled with sleeping guests was foiled this morning (Thursday).

Three people are suspected of setting fire to the Ibis hotel in The Forum, Stevenage.

Two men aged 19 and 22 and a woman aged 19, all from Stevenage, were arrested on suspicion of starting the fire with intent to endanger life.

Shortly before 3.15am the fire service and police were called to the hotel after fire broke out in two rooms. Burning items had also been thrown from windows.

Around 100 guests were evacuated as two fire engines from Stevenage and Hitchin dealt with the blaze.

The fire was declared out at just after 3.30am and guests were allowed to return to their rooms.

The arrested woman was seen by a doctor for burns to her hand. No other injuries were reported.

A fire investigation is ongoing this morning.

The three suspects remain in custody.
