THIS Saturday sees the launch of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year competition.

The event, organised by the Hitchin Tilehouse Rotary Club, is for entrants aged 12 to 17 who are required to cook a two-course meal (starter and main course) which is both healthy and nutritious.

The event is being held at North Hertfordshire College's Centre for the Arts in Willian Road, Hitchin, and the winner will have the chance to go on to the national final which is being held at Westminster College in May.

Unfortunately entry for this particular event is closed, but you can contact Maggie Dyer on 01462 429237 as there are other areas still accepting entries for other similar events.

Also on Saturday, the club is holding a bric-a-brac stall at the Market Place in Hitchin from 8.30am onwards to raise money for the club's Wheelchair Foundation appeal.

The organisation hopes to raise sufficient funds to buy a container of wheelchairs which will be shipped to eastern Europe or Africa.
