PLANS to impose parking restrictions in roads close to a hospital have sparked outrage as residents have not been promised parking permits.

The proposed restrictions aim to stop hospital workers and visitors parking in roads near to Lister and all streets within walking distance of the hospital are in the firing line.

Plans include painting double yellow lines on main roads and single yellow lines on cul-de-sacs.

Lesley Rolls, of Boswell Gardens, Stevenage, said: "I have lived here for 22 years and there has never been a parking problem.

"No one in their right mind would park in our road and walk to the hospital.

"It's crazy. We are not going to be able to park outside our houses.

"We have been told we won't get parking permits but I pay my road tax and should be able to park outside my own house.

"They can throw 1,000 parking tickets at me but I won't pay them.

"I am incensed about it and no way am I going to give up.

"Why they don't build a multi-storey car park is beyond me."

A spokesman for Stevenage Borough Council said: "It's just consultation at this stage and nothing has been decided.

"We are just speaking with residents to get their views.

"It came about because of all the parking problems in that area and residents as a whole want something done.

"If the majority of people in a street don't want it, that street won't be done.
