Service users from a day centre in Stevenage were treated to a Christmas lunch with all the trimmings thanks to the generosity of Knebworth Golf Club.
Staff at Douglas Drive Day Centre – which provides activities and group meetings for elderly people facing social isolation – were thrilled when the golf club offered to pay for and host the event.
Centre manager Rose Griffin said: “Out of the blue they rang me and said they would pay for it all. Would you believe our luck? The clients were delighted – it was a lovely gesture.
“We would like to say a really big thank you to Caroline, Emma and all the staff from the golf club.”
In total 59 people from the centre – made up of clients, volunteers and staff – attended the three-course meal, complete with musical entertainment.
Knebworth Golf Club secretary Caroline Debnam said: “We were delighted to be able to host this lunch for the day centre, it is a wonderful day to work, we all gain so much out of seeing people who are less fortunate than others to have fun and enjoy a Christmas lunch.
