The annual global event celebrates reading and is marked in more than 100 countries all over the world.

This year, children from across the area went to school dressed as their favourite literary character.

Weston Primary and Nursery School put their own spin on the event, giving it a Turret and Tiara theme.

A spokesman for the school said: “What a fantastic World Book Day we have had.

“We were joined by Peanuts Preschool for a special assembly and we all came dressed for our castle-based theme ‘turrets and tiaras’ and listened to fairy stories.

“Our kings, queens, princes and princesses became authors for the day writing some fantastic stories of their own, inspired by the wonderful castle our deputy head built in the hall.”
