Work on the landscaping of Smithson’s Recreation Ground in Hitchin is due to start next week.

Groundwork Herts, on behalf of North Herts District Council, refined initial plans after a community protest, with the revised outcome including a new planting scheme, path resurfacing, extra seating, and moving fencing to improve access.

Councillor Jane Gray, the district council’s executive member for leisure, said: “Even though the play equipment is not being updated, the landscaping will be a welcome improvement and we can’t wait to see the end result.”
