A HUGE appeal has raised more than £200,000 for renovations to a church.

Scaffolding is being put up on the north side and east end of St Mary's Church, Hitchin, so stone masons can set to work to repair the crumbling parapets and windows.

The appeal organisers are pleased with the £204,000 raised in just under a year and hope to reach their £300,000 target before Christmas.
