A group of women book- lovers got the chance to reveal what stories they enjoyed between the covers on TV last week.

The Thin Book Club has been thriving in Arlesey for the past eight years with its 14 members meeting once a month to discuss a book they had all read over a few glasses of wine.

To put their club firmly on the map one of the leading members of the group decided to volunteer their services to Channel 4's Richard and Judy Show which nominates a book each week for viewers to read.

The task facing the Thin Book Club was to digest the novel Labyrinth by Kate Mosse and then give their opinions to the millions of viewers that tune into the Richard and Judy Show while sitting at the home of club member and one of the founders Jayne Waterhouse in the Old School House, Arlesey.

"It was a good read and we all enjoyed the book," said Amanda Ferris, of Stotfold Road, Arlesey, who is a curate at St Paul's in Letchworth GC and All Saints, Willian.

"Why are we called the Thin Book Club? It is a lot quicker and easier to read thin books than fattish ones.

"I saw the Richard and Judy programme and rang them telling them about our club and we appealed to them and got on the show.

"It was great fun. The club is really a social event for members and we all enjoy one another's company as well as books.
