A WOMAN was racially abused in Hitchin town centre on Tuesday.

The victim, a 22-year-old from the town, was walking in High Street just before 3pm when she stumbled and fell against the offender who gave her a verbal lashing before walking away.

He was white, around 5ft 10in tall, slim build, about 35 years old with long hair past his shoulders. He wore a long cream raincoat style jacket.

Witnesses are being urged to ring hate crimes officer PC Ade Osoba on 01462 425070.

He said: "Any form of abuse racial or otherwise is distressing for the victim and is a criminal offence.
